Sir James Mills cables that his son, Lieutenant James Mills, is a prisoner of war at Karlsruhe, in Germany.

A Press Association message from Christchi:rr.-h says that the death occurred yesterday of Mr Herbert Cole, a weil-kuown resident, who for many years was a partner of the late Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P.

The remains of the late \V. J. Hunter, The, victim of a fatal accident on tho wharf, were conveyed to Christchurch vesterdav for interment. Messrs J. Tay'ir. W. Gillespie, T. Irwin, W. McOrath and T. Sullivan left bv the express to represent- the Tiniaru" staff at the funeral to-dav.

Mrs J.
