Cable Assn. and Renter. - Mr Lloyd George, in tho House of Commons, announced that the Irish Convention will assemble at Dublin on .Tuly 25. The preliminary business will bo to appoint a chairman. Mr Duke, Chief' Secretary, will act as provisional chairman, and the Government will nominate the cliairman in vhe pvent of the Convention not agreeing on an appointment. The nominations of delegates have already _ been received. Eminent Irishmen will assemble from all parts in a spirit of conciliation, in an endeavour to secure a settlement of old discords, and the Government will do its best to the same end. < BATTLE IN PROGRESS, PROTECTION OF LEGATIONS. "PEKING, July 7. General . Chang-Shun's Royalist troops are fighting a laige force of Republicans thirty-five mi 1613 from Peking. It is feared that ChangShun's position is hopeless. Chang-Shun's troops have torn up the railway at Langsang, midway between Tientsin and Peking. It is understood that foreign Powers are i sending detachments to restore railway communication.

Anglo-French, Japanese, and American troops are proceeding .to Peking to reinforce ; the Legation. guards.
