THE SOMME OFFENSIVE. FURTHER BRITISH PROGRESS. (Australian and N-Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, Sept. 29. Sir Douglas Haig reports This morning we captured a strongly defended farm south-west of Le Sars (on the Bapaume road). Last night was quiet on the greater part of the front, but the Germans heavily shelled the positions we had captured northwards of Theipva'l. Our aeroplanes northward of Ypres and south-east of Bapaume observed a hugo explosion, like an ammunition dump being blown up. The smoke ascended 9000 feet. / FURTHER PROGRESS. ON THE FRENCH FRONT.
