THE SOMME OFFENSIVE. FURTHER BRITISH PROGRESS. (Australian and N-Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, Sept. 29. Sir Douglas Haig reports This morning we captured a strongly defended farm south-west of Le Sars (on the Bapaume road). Last night was quiet on the greater part of the front, but the Germans heavily shelled the positions we had captured northwards of Theipva'l. Our aeroplanes northward of Ypres and south-east of Bapaume observed a hugo explosion, like an ammunition dump being blown up. The smoke ascended 9000 feet. / FURTHER PROGRESS. ON THE FRENCH FRONT. A French communique states:—We further progressed between Fregicourt and Morval. THREE AEROPLANES IN THREE MINUTES.. 1 RENCiniAN'S FINE RECORD PIRIS/Sept ,29. The' ■ Guy nemer ■ brought down *, three aeroplanes in three minutes. He narrowly escaped death. Shrapnel smashed a wing of his aeroplane, which crashed down in the French lines and was destroyed. Liouteriant Guynemer's injuries were slight. A , . THE ENEMY J S-F ORCES. * '(Reutet's - Telegrams.) ' PARIS., Sept. 29. A semi-official report states:—On the' Somme the enemy has thrown 300 bat- 5 talions against the British and 312 against the French. Of these 67 are new divisions.
