A Press 'cable from London reports that Lieutenant Archibald Hodges, of the Bedfords, a master of the Wanganui Collegiate School,, has been killed in action.

Sir M. J. O'Brien received word on Saturday that his brother, Private W. E. O'Brien, was wounded in France on the 20th." Hp. left her© with the 4th Reinforcements, and was on Gallipoli for five months. A cable was received by Mrs Elder, Temuka, on Saturday, stating that her son, Private Jim Elder, has been killed in France. Private Elder was the second son of Mr and Mrs J. Elder. He was educated at the Temuka District High School and previous to his enlistment was in the employment of Sirs C. Bates and Co. He left with tho 10th Reinforcements, and at the time of his death was twenty years of age

Private D. Clarke, "who recently died of wounds in France, was well known in South Canterbury. J-Je arrived at Fairlie ton years ago from the West Coast, and practised his profession as music teacher there, and more recently he extended his connection to Timaru.
