GETTING. READY FOR A VALLOT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. Mr Fraser, Government Statistician, estimates the number of j .en who should be on the roll of the expeditionary Force .Reserve a.t 200,000, of whom 183,680 have already applied for enrollment. The balan-3e probably includes a large number already in camp. Steps w'.ll be taken to trace defaulters and bring thcan'"to book. At present Mr Fraser is concentrating his energies on getting everything in readiness to 'hcJd an early ballot, if necessary at the end of tho present month, to fill shortages in the 21st and 22nd Reinforcements. The rolls for the recruit ng districts gazetted last week ar« being prepared, but it may be possible to take a. ballot if required wi uhout waiting for the completion of these rolls. ' After the; close of the shops last night, a very large and enthusiastic meet'ng was held in the street, at which the following resolution, moved by the Mayor, wn,s carried unanimously, amid cheers: —"That this monster meeting of On.maru and North Otngo otizens and residents, hereby cordially and smeere'ly desires to congratulate Mr Lloyd George on his great- manifesto. _as reported to-day, and -in common with the whole Br.tish Empire oiul u'ses to the letter his sentiments and aspiration: and that the Government be requested to transmit tlhis resolution to the Brtsh war Minister."
