Prices and competition were well maintained, although tho whole series was characterised by great irregularity. It is wonderful how large a preponderance of I.'initios was absorbed compared with July. Closing prices, for -all merino combing*, medium and inferior, have broken all records, showing 7-\ to 10 per cent, advance. Faulty short carbonising sorts declined sto T-.\ per cent. All scoured was ill buyers' favour. Greasy crossbreds advanced from 5 to 7 J per cent., best slipes 5d to Id. Inferior slipes were sliglily cheaper. Scoured crossbreds declined from Id to 2d. Merino lambs are uuchaiiged. Crossbred declined Id. There is a better feeling throughout the trade regarding the future. Appre.hension of the Governments' action in regard to the colonial markets is causing hesitation, but there is no fear of a. seiious collapse of va 1 uos. Colonial-im-porters are demanding improved shipping facilities from the colonies. Kaputane, top 33d average 313 d.
