PATRIOTIC CONCERT.

AT SOI'TJiBURX. A. very .successful concert, in aid of the sick and wounded fund, iv;is held in Mr Bell's granary at Southburn. Before eight o'clock the room was packed, and several, who arrived alter that liour, had to stand at ilio doors. Th-:> performers were from Timaru, and consisted of the Bth Regimental Band, under the baton of .Mr -\ewtoii, and a. | coiif'crt party, also under the leadership of lir .Newton, who must lie complimented on tile able manner in which ho conducted both parties. Ail the items on the programme wore so well rendered that it is; impossible to discriminate, nearly every item being vociferously encored. After 1 lie concert an auction Kale of product! took place. Mr McKay, of ■ D.dgoty and Co., being the auctioneer. All tile good's realised :i very good price. There were also guessing competitions which considerably added to the funds. The dance which took place •afterwards, was enjoyed by all who remained, and was kept up'till the eariv hours of the morning. The committee wish to extend heartv thanks to Mr J'allcson and the C.E.C.A., for the loan of the flags, to Mr MeKav for acting as auctioneer, and to Mr' Bell for the use <,f his granary. Mr Bell was untiring in. his efforts', and proved a-n excellent host. The wile of produce realised £72. of which £i.;o has been paid to the sick and wounded .soldiers' fund, the balance being :paid to the Southburn Sewing Guild, to be used.bv them in providing comforts for the sick and wounded. . This makes a. grand total of £•-105 lrom the Southbum district, exclusive of donations and monthlv,subscriptions paid to the Sewing Guild.
