The German fled v ithin the range of the guns at Ostend. where she was torpedoed. French sailors began rescue work but were forced to abandon ahout 200 men because the shore guns had opened fire. FEAT. ! GERMAN SUBMARINE DESTROYED KY AEROPLANE. LOXDOX, Aug. 26. •Squadron Commander Bigswortll in his aeroplane bombed and destroyed single-handed a German submarine oif Ostend to-day. The Admiralty announces that the submarine which was attacked by Commander Bigsworth was completelv wreckcd and sank. Tt is not the Admiia'ty s practice to the losses of Geiman submarines. important though they have been, in cases where the enemy have no other source of information as to the time and the place at which they occurred. This brilliant feat was performed immediately in the neighbourhood of coasts occupied by the ! enemy A Gorman destroyer " has located the position of the sunken submarine.
