! GERMANY APOLOGETIC. OVER ARABIC CASE. Received 6 p.m., August 27th. AMSTERDAM, August 26. A Berlin wireless states that Dr von Hollweg has authorised a statement to be transmitted to America, stating that if it is shown that the commander of the submarine exceeded his instructions, Germany will, unhesitatingly give complete satisfaction in. regard to the Arabic, in conformity with the friendly relations existing between the two Governments. ROOSEVELT'S ARDENT TONGUE. USED IN THE "WRONG PLACE. W A SHIN GTON, August 26. Mr Roosevelt, addressing a camp of military students at Plattsburg, New York, asserted bitterly that America was standing idly by while Belgium perished. America did nothing while American men, women .and children lvere being murdered. America had never raised a finger in favour of the defenceless, despite all the vapourings of the pacifists. Admirable elucidation and dignified correspondence was not' the way to assert American rights. I The Department of War haa ordered ! an investigation as to who invited Mr Roosevelt to speak to military men, I thus infringing the neutrality; of the 1 United States. |
