Replying to inquiries from Nevr Zealand Lord Ranfurly, on behalf or the Red Cross Society and St. John Ambulance Association, states t" a " they are working unitedly and have sent to the Mediterranean Commissioner £20,400 in cash and £93,200 worth of stores. For helping the wounded many ambulances had been sent, also one hundred nurses,; twenty voluntary aid detachments, fourteen doctors and nineteen orderlies, beside* other officers. Each Men's Voluntary Aid Det - ment consists of 51 members. E Women's Voluntary Aid Detachnn. consists of 23 members. ■'■■-.'J::. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE is urgently required for Military Hospitals and for general Red Cross purposes, and the Timimi Committee confidently appeals to the Public of South Canterbury for generous financial assistance! - There must be no thought of economy when human lives are at stake, and the Red Cross. Organisations are giving the very best 'in men and women and goods. Much has been accomplished, but th« work is not vet half done, indeed tha need for voluntary effort is greater than ever, and so.long as the war lasts it will be the duty of every loyal British Subject to do his utmost to ensure that adequate provision is mads for this noble and colossal work. THE FOLLOWING ARTICLES ARE ALSO WANTED : Flannel, wool, linen sheets, woollen pyjamas, woollen underclothing, blankets, bedsoeks, woollen caps, socks, etc. MONFY WTLL BE DEALT WITH AS FOLLOWS : Part will be applied to Red Cross purposes in New Zealand in connection with training camps and returning sick and wounded, part will go to the hospitals in the Mediterranean, and the balance will be forwarded to the Central Committee of the Association in London to be distributed to tha various hospitals for Sick and Wounded in the Mediterranean, Great Britain, France, and Belgium.
