Major Gabites presided over a far attendance of members, and during tin course of the evening presented the departing comrade with a. leather writing outht. Comrade. Ferguson returned _ thanks for the presentation, and for tinkind and thoughtful appreciation o! members. During the evening songs worr' rendered by Savages Crawford, Ho'.c and Scott, and by Comrades Porter. Page and Borton. Before conchiding the gathering Major Gabites made reference to thi promotion of two of the Association'smembers, namely, Lieut.-Col. R. Hea ton Rhodes and Captain H. S. N Robinson Comrade Lieut. O'Callaghan movec that the following motion of congratu lation be sent to these members: — To Colonel Rhodes —''That thi: meeting of South African veteran; congratulate their patron. Colonel R Heaton Rhodes, on bis appointment tf look after the interests of our boys a* the front- they are quite confident knowing him in the past, that thr wants of our boys will be well attendee 1 to by him." The motion was carrier unanimously. To Captain Robinson—"That we congratulate our old comrade, Captain H S. Robinson, on his being appointed to a command at the Front, where we arc sure he will make as good a soldier as he made in his initial work as Adjutant to the 2nd South Canterbury Regiment."
