SHEEP PENS AT ORARI.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald'' Sir.—ln. your report of the meeting of the Geraldine lioad Board held on Tuesday it is stated that the district railway engineer had applied for permission to erect sheep pens on Macdonald Street, Orari. Who made the suggestion ? The fact is that two sides of th© enclosure wero. set up some time ago without saying "bv your leave"' to anyone (so far as the- writer knows). Large sheep pens are already in existence and there is a large area of railway reserve that can be usedThe Itoad Board have already allowed a railway employee to fence off one part of the street to th© inconvenience of the public, and permission has now been given to the engineer to take another part for a purpose that will prove an insanitary nuisance. Have the ratepayers and residents been consulted P Ought not the health officer to have something to say in the matter? In my simplicity I understood that the Road Board was in existence to conserve the legal rights and privileges of the ratepayers. Have I been mistaken?—l am, etc., A GERALDINE RATEPAYER.
