THE TEMUKA SEAT.

♦ MEETING AT FAIRLIE. SELECTS REFORM CANDIDATE. A meeting was held at Fa'rlio on Monday nignt to discuss tho question of selecting a Reform candidate for the Teniuka electorate at the forthcoming election. There was a good attendance. Mr W. .Black presid.ng. I'.ic chairman explained "that the meeting had ben called to discus* the question of asking Mr Bernard Tripp to stand as the Reform candidate for tho Tcniuka seat at tho next election. It was very necessary, more especially at a time such as this, to have strong men, and men of stand.ng and decision, to look after tho interests of the country. Mr Tr.pp was well-known throughout the whole district and Cie (the chairman) was qtiite sure ho would receive liberal support among all classes. They were aware that Mr H. 11. Hayhurst had been suggested as a candidate, but without any disparagement to Mr Hayhurst, ho considered they wanted a man of more mature experience. Mr T. ]). Burnett who had broached the subject to Mr Tripp, was present and lie would ask him to speak.

j ilr Burnett- said that at the last election lie had voted i'or whom he .considered the best mail' irrespectivouof party. Since then int'ie industrial tiouir.es which had occurred, the Mus-se-v Government had shown themselves above mere vote catching tactics and they were the party to support, lie had spoken to Mr Tripp about the proposed candidature and he (Mr Trip])) •had heeu very guarded in his remarks. He was very fair to tho proposed candidate, Mr Hayhurst, and gave Imn (Mr Burnett) to understand that if Mr Hayhurst was brought out as the rccogirited Reform candidate he would not contest the seat. On the other hand if ho himself was asked to represent the party as the selected candidate, lie would seriously consider tho ) riucstion. Mr Burnett then said that it was for this meeting to make, a move to get Mr Tripp recognised as tho Ueform candidate. " Mr Wreford moved that Mr Tripp lv recommended as the Keform candidate for the Teniuka electorate. This was seconded by Mr Burnett and tarred unanimously. The i>>l!owin:r committee was appointed:—Messrs T. ]). Burnett, YV. Wreford. J. W. Stay. G. K. Brav. C. B. Jones. \Y. .). Jl'alstead. J. Davidson and T. Fotlen. It was decided to communicate with the Prime Minster and suggest Mr Tripp as the Hoform candidate for Teniuka electorate; ;»!*■> to crcuiar.se ot'.ier centres with a view to getting a hugely signed requisition asking Mr Tripp to stand. Mr T. Foden" was elected ehairnian of the Committee. After further details had been arranged the meeting closed with a vote t.i thanks to Mr" Burnett and the chaMin.ui.
