GERMAN SOLOMONS. SYDNEY, Sept. S. The steamer Messina fro mNauru reports that the island is under martial law. A week before she left the Germans attempted to capture the steauK*. detained the captain for six hours, and eventually liberated him, when he rejoined the steamer at Ocean Island, the chief officer having managed to get the Messina away. Nothing was seen of the German squadron. The island has a powerful wireless plant, and the fleet is undoubtedly in touch with it. Incredible and exaggerated German victories are posted at Pronto. A chartered patrol party from the. islands conveyed the news that three German warships are cruising in the region of Ponape, and the Germans are anticipating that on their arrival they will bo taken off.
