BATTERIES AT CLOSE QUARTERS. GERMAN GUNS CHANGE HANDS. PARIS., Sept. 6. Dragoon Guardsmen relate that when the German guns were' captured at Compiegne the German and British batteries were only five hundred yards apart. The British succeeded firing first, and the Dragoons followed up. with a, tremendous charge,, even the ehocingsmith. armed with a hammer participating in the charge. GERMAN LOSSES. COPENHAGEN, Sept. 6. Lists of losses of the sixteenth and seventeenth regiments of the German army show that various Prussian Guard regiments, and also the fourth Bavarian Cavalry Brigade havei lost nearly all their officers. THREE V.C.'s EARNED. Received 9.50 p.m.. Sept.. 7tli. LONDON, Sept. 6 (p.m.). The Press Bureau reports that during the fighting on August 26th at Licateau a whole Britislu battery was killed, or wounded, except one subaltern and two gunners, who kept up the fire, and throughout were unhurt.
BRAVE BELGIAN "WOMEN. PUNISHED FOR PATRIOTISM. IN GERMAN WAY. BORDEAUX, Sept. 6. Refugees state that thirty youths and n'omen with, rifles ambushed a posse of Uhlans and killed nearly .ill of them, near Vonziers. Next day ,a large force of Uhlans burned the village l and five children were incinerated. WAR ON FISHING BOATS. Received 12.30 a.m., Sept. Bth. STOCKHOLM, Sept, Eriksen, a Norwegian engineer on board a British trawler, was fishiug with others north-west of the Bank on August 28th, when a German battleship opened fire, sinking two trawlers. The crews were rescued. Eleven other trawlers were captured and conveyed to Hamburg. SPIES ABOUT. Received 2. a.m., Sept. Bth. LONDON, Sept. 7 (a.m.) The "Daily Mail's " Rouen corre- j spondent states that throughout the j British retirement from Mons to Compeigne the Germans uerc uncaiuiilv acquainted with Sir John French's headquarters, which were shelled at Le Cateau and at Saint Quontin.
