Tii3 vote is generally light, the causes for this being the absorbing interest of the war and the abstention of the Liberals who opposed the forcing of the election, and the abstention af Labourites who disapproved of an assault on the Administration at this juncture. Ti.o newspapers did not post returns, consequently street excitement- was lacking. W hen the counting ceased at midnight none of the returns were complete. but many were sufficiently advanced as to be unlikely to be altered.
