ONE war correspondent ALLOWED. (Per Press Association.) ELLINGTON, Sept. 4. In reply to Mr Atmore in the House this evening, Mr Allen said an arrangement hud been made with the Army Council that one press correspondent should be allowed to go to the front to represent New Zealand, and Mr Scholfieild (now in London) had been Selected.

GERMAN PATENTS. In reply to a question on tho subject of German patents in New Zealand, Mr Herdman said he had cabled Home to ask the Imperial authorities what steps were being taken in Great Britain, and if thought desirable, similar legislation would be passed here.

MOVEMENT BY RAILWAY MEN. NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 4. A very largely attended meeting of local railway men to-night decided 'to establish a patriotic fund for the relief of distress generally, not merely confined to railway men. The executives of tlie various railway societies throughout the Dominion will ho urged to combine and make an appeal to the general public. A suggestion was made to tlio executive to ask all members of the service to contribute a minimum of sixpence a week during the continuation of the war. All present agreed to enrol as a railway- unit of the Defence Rifle Club. RELIEF FUNDS. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 4. AIL offerings 011 Sunday, October 4, in Anglican and all other churches, excepting the Roman Catholic, which will be on the last Sunday in October, are to be donated througho'di New Zealand to the fund for the benefit of the poo iof Great Britain, Irelaud and Belgium. It is hoped that at every service on that day offerings will be given. '•Violet Day" to-day, in aid of the Fowl for Britain and Belgium Fund realised the handsome total of £489. '
