CAR ACCIDENT. UNLIGHTED DANGER ON ROAD. (Per Press Association.) GORE, March 4. A narrow escape from a serious motor car accident occurred near McNab last night. The County Council is reconstructing a small bridge over tie main road, and an excavation 10 feet wide, and six feet deep is only shown by a single oil lamp on the Gore side of the excavation. Mr Gilbert Wise, dentist, was returning from Dunedin by car, with Mr Hood, another dentist, at 9.30 p.m., when the car dashed into the excavation, with the result that Mr Hood was thrown through the wind shield and severely cut and bruised. Mr Wise retained his seat, but received severe bruises. Allen Nicholson, aged 23, was driving y a traction engine drawing two trucks of timber on a road in Hawke's Bay, when the steering gear broke and the engine went over the side of the road into a 12ft. gully, and turned, completely over. The driver was killed instantly.
