FOOTBALL.
TO-DAY'S MATCH. The annual match between Canter-; bury and South Canterbury will be played at the Caledonian Ground this afternoon, commencing at 2.45. The teams will bo:—' CANTERBURY. J. Bain. A. McDonald W. Simmers H. Taylor H. Watson D. Sandman P. J. Amodeo J. Mehrtens (wing) R. Kennedy W. Maxwell L. Dougall W. Cumminga A. Panning C. Hagerty E. Hasell L/ANTERBUB*. . D. Scott T. Lynch E. Oockroft B. Moore J. Harley A. Spillane , .\V. Spillane (i. Coles (wing) W. Dalton E. Eflminton T. Langford W. Moore M. Horgan O. Cowan D. BurK© Neither side is represented by quite its full strength, but the CanterDury, team is s a very strong one for a touring side. Gray cannot well bo replaced, but the only other important absentee in the visiting fifteen is Murray, whose place is taken by Melirtens, a wing forward with'a big reputation. The heavy rain yesterday has made th» ground, which previously was in perfect order, too heavy for the best football, but Canterbury players are not imaceustomed to heavy going, and they axe intent on avenging their 19~-3 defeat on their last visit to Timaru. As the visiting team is considered much stronger now than then, the home team will need to be on their mottle to escape defeat. AN ALBURY TEAM. * The following will represent Albury Juniors against Fairlio Old Boys at Fairlie on Saturday next:—Full back, W. Angland; three-quarters, B. Ward, J. Dooley, R.
