In the class for Clydesdale stallions, four years old and over, Royal Scotch, bred in New Zealand, was first. For colts three years and under four years, belonging to Messrs Mitchell and O'Brien, of Oamaru, was first. For two years and under three years Sir Logie, bred in New Zealand, was first. In mares, four years and over, Messrs Mitchell and O'Briea's Flora was awarded the second prize. "SIMPLE LIFEtf CRANK. GOES TO GAOL. SYDNEY, August 13. Judge Murray dismissed Chidley'e appeals against convictions for begging alms, and offensive behaviour in the domain. On tho first charge he was sentenced to fourteen days, and on the second ordered to find recognisance for good behaviour for a year, in default • two months, and he gora, to gaol. . Chidley, in arguing hHs case at length, claimed that he had made a discovery of the utmost importance to humanity. The Judge said he thought Chidley was doing what he considered right, but there were things which scientists might discuss at conventions, but which decent people did not care to talk about, and it was not right that such questions should be discussed broadcast.
