The* Duke of Fife is suffering from a severe chill at Wady Haifa, and his condition is causing some anxiety. Miss Beswick, on retiring from tho niatrouship of Send;ft Asvlum after twenty years' service, to visit the Old Country, was presented -with a purse of sovereigns. Mr James Crajgie, M.P., left for Dunedin on Saturday. This week ho will accompany members of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce and Otago M.P.'s on a tour of Central Otago. •The Pleasant Point School Committee. have decided to recommend Miss C. Beck for appointment as junior assistant. At the Sacred Heart Church last evening the Rev. Father Augustine Venning preached an eloquent sermon on the sacrifice of the Mass. Father Venning is an old Timaru boy, and bolongs to St. Patrick's College staff. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, will pass through Timaru by to-day's second express, en route for Temuka, where he will attend tho social tendered to Mr Buxton this evening.
Captain Sfceveris, Cominandant- of Junior Cadets, went to the Ooihi on Saturday to sjiend a brief holiday fishing.
