BOROUGH COUNCIL.

-WAIMATE. A meeting of the Wnimalo Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening; present—Tina Deputy-Mayor (Councillor lukster), and Councillors Miller, ' Manchester, Jones, Cox, AtwiH, Collett, Evans arid Evans. The Mayor wrote thanking the Counoil for its expression of sympathy and for granting him leave of absence. The Secretary to the Oamaru Trades I'icnic wrote thanking the Council for tho courtesy extended on the occasion of tts lato picnic. The C.F.0.A., Ltd., and the N.M. nnd A. Co., Ltd., wrote regretting that owing to tho Counties claiming a share of the Auctioneers' licenses that they were unable to take out licenses with the Waimate Borough this year. _ Mr Z. Tho Clerk of Works reported that . tho contractor was not carrying out the boxing for the concrete" work at " tho septic- tank to his approval.—lt ■ was respired that notice be served on : tho contractor that no concrete is to bo placed in the boxing for the tank until such boxing '3 approved by the , Olork of Works, and that the engineer [ ' l>p communicated with and ask-ed to ] visit "Waimate and look into the J matter at once-. ' i [ The Engineer wrote, in reply to an ■ inquiry from tho Council, 'that in I certifying for a proercss payment on j account of cement ho had made a I mistake. The cement had not been I delivered, but the matter would be ; a'l right now as further payments had accrued since then. Councillors expressed dissatisfaction with tho explanation, and consideration of tho letter was held over. The Engineer and the Borough Solicitor wrote in regard to the proposed sewage outfall. The discussion ■was taken in committee, and it was resolved to hold a special meeting on tho engineer's return to Waimate. It was resolved to ask tho South Canterbury Hospital and Charitablo : Aid Board if it would allow Inspector Paul to undertake the drainage plumbing inspection, and, if so, on., what terms. The Clerk reported that tho Department had forwarded the drainage loan monies, and formal resolutions were passed regarding the Bank account. GENERAL. J. Hicks was appointed dog-tax collector. Tho resignation of the baths carstaker was accepted, and it was decided to advertise for applications for the position, _ On Councillor Manchester's motion, it was decided that the Water Committee visit Garland's crossing, and inspect tho pipe line that had been uncovered by the late' flood. Councillor JoncS drew attention to the manner in which the drainage trenches wore heaped up, causing obstruction in tho streets, and the mattor was referred to tho engineer to attend to. ACCOUNTS.
