B.C. JOCKEY CLUB. A meeting of the committee of tho south Canterbury Jockey Club was held last night. Present—Mr H. Lowry (in the chair), Messrs G. S. Cray, J. p. Newman, A. S. Klworthy, A. dcott, C. H. Gressou, and Dr Ihomas. Letters were received from various members who had boon appointed as piiiuaia of tho club; also from tho Trotting Club relative to distances and Etakes of the trotting races proposed to i>o placed on tho programme; from W. h\ James re totaiisator; from the New Zealand Racing Conference requesting clubs to seo that all tioketß on tho tote are consecutively numbered; from the same Baying that it was intended to strike off from the unpaid forfeit list all arrears prior to Ist January, 1906; from tho same re alteration of Rules of Racing; from tho Thames Jockoy Club ro mooting of country clubs lately held in Wellington; from Mr Piper ro starting. Mr Reid, who is going Home on a health trip, was granted six months' leave of absence. Tho chairman reported that very extensive correspondence had taken place between the president of the Racing Conference, the Gore 'Racing Club, tho Oamaru Trotting Club, and the Pleasant Point Caledonian Society in reference to the date of the spring meeting, and it was apparent that in view ■ of' the Gore Racing Club absolutely'declining to agree to the change, it was impossible to got the' dayß asked for, viz., Saturday and the Monday (Labour Day), October 23rd. It was decided that the dates of tho spring meeting should be November 22nd and 23rd, provided the chairman of the Racing Conference agrees. The chairman reported that the lowlying ground on tho training tracks had been filled in and an outer ring added,to the horse rings, at a cost of £lB and £ll respectively. It was resolved that W. F. James bo written to asking him to quote; terms on which he would work two £1 machines on inside, £1 outside, and 10s to work inside and outside, on November 22nd and 23rd. I .

The programme as amended was approved and adopted. The trotting races are to be held on the six-furlong trotting track, .tho distance to bo 1J miles each day, and tho stakes to bo £6O (and £SO. Mr H. Brinkmau was appointed handicappor i for trots, and the matter of starter waß left in the hands of the chairman. The ground committee wero voted £3O to make small repairs that might be necessary from time to time, the committee to apply for a farther sum when required. The track proper was ordered to be closed. Messrs Leo. G. D. Acland, W. R. Pearson, and H. F. Morton were elected members. Accounts for £26 14s 9d were passed for payment. TROTTING. MEETING' OF TIMARU CLUB. A meeting of -the Timaru Trotting Club was held in the Royal Hotel last j night. Present—Messrs F. C. Wat- ' son (chairman), R. R. Johnstone, W. Ogden, J. Robertson, J. Skinner, W. Quirk, W. Connolly, J. McDonald, J. Gilchrist, and McLean.' A good deal of time was spent in discussing who the Club should nominate for seats on the New Zealand Trotting Association, and tho names of seven candidates were selected. A letter was received from the South Canterbury Jockey Club expressing their willingness to include two trots ;on their next programme—one for each day, the amount to be given in '•ikes for these events being £6O on ;.? day, and £SO on the other. If the I jottmg Club had any suggestions to :nake regarding these events tho Jockey Club would be pleased to consider them. This letter was received with expressions of satisfaction that the Jockey Club had so willingly fallen in with the wishes of the Trotting Club, and on the motion of Mr Robertson it was decided to cordially thank the Jockey Club. The Jockey Club expressed the opinion that the trot on each day should be the same length; and on the proposal of Messrs Robertson and' Quirke it was unanimously resolved to recommend that the distance be 14 miles. Mr Quirke mentioned that Mr H. Thomson, of Christchureh, had an excellent starting clock for trots, and he had expressed his willingness to come to Timaru and start the trots here for his expenses plus whatever the Club might feel disposed to give him. The offer was considered a generous one; and it was resolved to forward it on to the Jockey Club who will hare full control of the trots. Mr Quirk said he believed that Mr Thomson would give every satisfaction. Members decided to give every assistance in their power to the Jockey Club in running the trots, if such assistance were desired. Mr Quirke -gave a report on the work done at the Trotting Conference where he went as delegate from the Timaru Trotting Club. This report was taken in committee. ThatDunedin butchers are finding a difficulty in securing in Otago the quality of cattle they desire is demonstrated by the fact that a well-known Duuedin firm of butchers is at present securing its supplies from Plawke's Bay (says the Otago Daily Times").
