Representatives of . Horticultural Societies between Temuka and Oaniara met in conference at Waimate on Thursday last. Those present were— Dr Douglas and Mr Mitchell (Oanraxu), Rev. Mackenz.e Gibson, Mr E. Hassx'l and Mr A. HosMas (Waimate), Mr A. C. Witson (Temuka), and Messrs G. B. Khowles and P. G. Allen (Timaru). Dr. Douglas was chairman, and Mr Hoskins secretary. The principal business was to make the schedules ■ more uniform, give more explicit instructions to exhibitors, and to so arrange the dates of shows that they will not clash one with another.. Dates were suggested for the several shows and the societies were asked- to adhere to them as near as possible. In order to secure uniformity in methods of judging it was decided to adopt the system followed by the Royal Horticultural Society, the National Rose Society, and the National Sweet Pea Society respectively. It w;'.s decided that a special set of rules and suggestions be ar-rr.nsf-d in booklet- form, the cost to be divided equally between the various Societies interested. A committee was appointed to draw up these rules and suggestions. The next conference is to be held at Timaru in May next.
