SMOKING ON TRAINS.
To tlie Editor "Tinmrn Herald." Sir, —As I am the person at point in "Occasional Traveller s" letter in your paper, I must in justioe to the travelling public and guards generally answer same. "Traveller" assumes that smokers take full charge of any carriage, and tliat -guards with ono exception take no notice of them. This is a strong condemnation of a body of men whom I know to \be courteous gentlemen, and equally W reliable as the guard whom your correspondent named. Ido not wish, to stir up strife, but it is only to avoid doing so that I refrain from giving facts that would give cause 4 'Occasional Traveller' 1 considerable surprise.-—I am, etc.. me SMOKER. Timaru, May 29tlh.
