SWIMMING.

THE SANDERSON MEDAL. An interesting race was got off at the Century Swimming Baths last evening when the gold medal given by Mr Gordon Sanderson was eoiniwted for. the race being under the auspices of tiie Tiinaru Amateur Swimming Club, which, body gav-e a second prize of £1 Is, and a third prize of 10s Sd. There were eight competitors and the winner turned up iu 11. O'Donogkue. The race resulted:— AI. O' Donoghue (sc-r) ]. Vi. Holdgate (5 sec) 2. O. Clissold (13 sees) 3. L. Brasafield 0-3 sees) 4. Other starters were—J. Dalglei=h 20 sees, J. Hnllen 20 sees, J M. Jack 25 sees, and D. McDonald 24 scrs. In the first 50 yards there was very little alteration; at the end of a hundred yards the back man had gained considerably on those at the h«ad of affairs, and by' the time 150 yards had been covered the swimmers ero all bunched. Thereafter there was a kc-en struggle for supremancv. Holdgate, O'Donoghue, Clieaold" Hulle.-i and Bracefield drew away from the rest, and a dozen yards from home O'Donoghue, putting on a fine sprint, shot to the front and claimed the verdict with a couple of yards to spare from Holdgate, who finished less than a yard ahead of Clissold. Bracofieid being very close up. The distance was cut out in the very creditable time of ■2mins oosecs. Mr l'\ J. Dunn "cted as starter, Messrs P. Drennen and T. i Colo, as check starters, while Mr W. Jordan adjusted the handicaps.
