Finch t. G. H. B. Smith, claim £34 4s 6d, and costs £2 14s, Smithson and Raymond v. F. C. S-eyb, claim £1 Ss. and costs ss. W. H. Fodcu and Co. v. W. Manders, claim £2 17s sd, and costs os. Geo. Dawson v. J. E. Mcllroy, claim £6 95., and Ss costs. M. A. Venning v. J. E. Mcllroy, claim •£4 12s, and costs os. In the case John Jackson and Co. v. J. P. McLean and K. McLenan, claim £ll7 lis lid under The "Wages Protection and Constructors' Lions Act, judgment for plaintiff by default had previously he-en given. hut a rehearing was applied fur, and yesterday the Magistrate- irave indigent ncainst McLean ouly, with costs £6 16s 3d. BRICKLAYERS' AWARD. The Inspector of Awards, j\lr G, ii. Lighifoot, charged Anderson and Brown, builders, with a breach, of Xiio Canterbury Bricklayers' Award 1907, hi that they had on November 15., sub-let-brick work, "labour only," to one J. Mullins. The Inspector said the defendants liad not been long in business, haviug recently como here from South Africa, and they iuid that they were ignorant of tlie award. They had a house to build in North Street, and sub-let the brick work, ; -labour only' 5 to Mullins. In doing tso they had committed a broach of tin* a ward. T T nder the circumstances. however, he did not press for a heavy penalty. One of the defendants. Mr Anderson, appeared, and admitted the breach, but said he was ignorant of the terms of j the award at the time. The Magistrate imposed a penalty of 10s, and said the defendants should make themselves acquainted: with the conditions of awards under which tliey had to work.
