At the Labour Conference thero was a stormy debate on a motion demanding that the • State Labour members should fall into line on the referenda or leave the movement. Eventually an amendment was carried that the Conference, having an overwhelming majority, had decided to support the referenda, and trusts to the loyalty of the Labour Party to respect the decision of the Conference. Mr Holman, New South Wales Attorney-General, gave an assurance that the State Government would not oppose the wishes of the Conference. At the Labour Council meeting, strong statements were made in support of the existence of rabbit and meat rings, which it was alleged are actually operating. The Council empowered the Executive to take the necessary steps to check the alleged evils. STRIKES AND LOCK-OUTS. LONDON, Feb. 2. The lock-out of printers affects the Typographical Association of Manchester, with a membership of 2,200, the Scottish Typographical Society, with a membership of 4,600, and several small unions. Mr Burt, M.P. for Morpeth, suggests that forthcoming mining legislation should further strengthen the sections relating to coal dust. ROME, Feb. 1. Owing to delay in satisfying their demands, the railwaymen have increased the amount of wages demanded. A campaign of obstruction and sabotage has commenced on the State railways. There have been eighteen attempts at train wrecking by false signals and explosives. Signor Luzzati, the Premier, declines to be coerced, and the railwaymen threaten a general strike on the ovo of the Rome and Turin exhibitions.
