CASUALTIES.
SHOCKING ACCIDENT. MAN OCT IN TWO. Per Prom Association. GREYMOUTH, Feb. 9. A shocking acoidont ooeurred till* evening, resulting in tho (loath of 13Wt Sherman, well known in timber oiroleg on the West Coast, and about 35 yoat'l of age. Sherman. who was employed at Porter's sawmill at Dobion, left Ciroymoiith by tho 7.30 train for Iteofton. This particular train does not stop at Dobson, a (lam station, tho flrrt stop being Wallsend, over a mile fw» ther on. Just before the train reached Dobson deceased went on to the enpriage platform and attempted to alight from the moving train. Misting lit* footing ho was drawn under the tratn» and the wheels oOt his body in two, bosidoß inflicting other teirriblfl injuries, making the body unrecognisable. Death was inatontaueous. Tho remains were brought to Groymouth by tho Otira express. Incensed loaves a widow and four young children.
Francis Marshall, eon of tlio Crown Prosecutor at Wanganui, the youth who accidentally shot himself in the head with-' a pea-rifle on Wednesday, died in Uoßpital. A boy nampd > L. Allison, osjea J4, was seriously injured at St. Clair. A big stone cither fell on him or was thrown from the cliff overhead,_and ho sustained a fractured skull. He was removed to the hospital in an unconscious state.
