FROZEN MEAT AT HOME. SHIPPERS TO SUPERVISE LANDING. Daring the course of ® eonrersaation which a representatiTe of ''The Dominion" had with Sir. W- G- Foster, the executive bead of the Wellington. Meat Export Company, Ltd., thiw gentleman stated that an understandVn 7 had been reached among the North Island companies, wjach had for its object the stricter supervision of .the New Zealand meat export trade at the London end. It h»m been agreed by these concerned thit*" the interests or the trade required the presence in England of a highly-paid representative commissioner, vested with extensive powers. Certain of the big ©sporting companies already had representatives in London, but it was felt that th© mnnv interests of the trade as a whole demanded the exercise of a general supervision by a representative commissioner appointed by the meat companies, accredited with ample authority to act as he saw fit in cases where the interests .of the industry were in danger of being jeopardised. The question .of a representative appointed bv the Government had been raised, but- rejected, as it had been recognised by all concerned that the meat companies must work out their own salvation. . . _ In reply to a question, Mr Foster oia not consider that the recent announcement that certain of the European, countries —Switzerland and Austria, for example—had opened their doors to foreign meat, would affect the New Zealand export trade. "Our meat Is too good for them," lie said, adding that London was the best market for the New Zealand exporter. In any case, he said, the removal of the European restrictions upon imported meat was oiily temporary. MUNICIPAL THEATRE.
