AMUSEMENTS.

HAYWARD'S PICTURES. Every seat was occupied at tho Theatre lioyal last evening when a hue programme of animated pictures were screened by Messrs Haywaid's. The pictures were perfectly projected by the operator, flicker being conspicuous by its absence. The latest films cover a. wide range of subjects, the scenic, dramatic, and humorous studies being particularly good. The latest edition of the Pathe Gazette is extremely interesting, some of the incidents contained therein being the visit of the Gernuui Emperor to Brussels, and the grand review of troops in honour of his visit; the unveiling of the new St. Paul's Cross at London, and flashes of rugby and association cup matches in England. In the last picture the great popularity in England of the "Soccer' game is strikingly evident, judging by the great crowds of enthusiasts which arc t-o be soen at the contests. On tho other hand the number of onlookers at the iUigby game is very mwgre. A further picture of interest in tho Gazette contained snapshots of some of the Liberal and Conservative candidates in the K'cent elections at Home.. Tho films, • iCu'.-haristic at ?.icntreal, n ••H--en-:s in Turkey." and "Fighting the Sea'' were ail excellent. Dramatic iilms h<••]<-] leadiiirc tjlikv in the new •programme. One with ph-my of ihrillinji; incident:- and si-nsnt.-ionni situations was a wild west Indian drama, "White Fawn." The story is a j*>wernil one and can b-u <ns;ly followed. A study from F. Schille's "Tne- Glove" was "a very intorrst ; ng depiction. An exquisitely* coloured Pathe subject was "The Mascot/' a beautiful fairy tale, in which costumes are a consnicupu-? feature. Tho relief films are particularly strong in the new series. A projection which, sent the house into rnars of laughter was "A boat on wheels." This mv-il vehicle gets out of control shortly after its launching, and after sundry dashes through populated streets and c.ouf.ing untold daniairo, comes in tho placid waters of a river. The mischievousness of "Mamma's Angel Child" also caused great amusement. 'J "lie remaining lilies on tho programme wore all geod, and the orchestra of five performers contributed apropriatc. music throughout the programme. The two overtures were excellently played, all the instruments working perfectly together. This evening another opportunity of witnessing this programme wil! be afforded, when there should be another largo audience. FULLERS 1 PICTURES. Ilu.ldinos of groat :irchilo':turul beauty_ and gloat magnificciico are viewed in a sivnic film entitled "Pnlcrino Monuments," which hu3 the additional merit of being tastefully coloured. A military picture that was generally admired included soino very ajiincite:l scenes in which the guides_ to the Italian Cavalry are efcoroisiiiE their horses, and undergoing inspection on tlie occasion of tho visit of tho Duke of Geneva. "Lest V»"o Forget" yourtrayed a pathetic but happily -ending Christmas story, in which succour comes to a starving woman and her child as tlie result of the woll-jjcetelied dream of a voting girl, wliose parents aro in more prosperous circumstances.
