LABOUR AND POLITICS.
COMPLAINT AGAINST JUDGES. press Association —By Tel.—Copwigbt. Reoeived 9.25 p.m., Jan. 26th. LONDON, Jan." 26. Referring to the Osborne judgment the Labour Party's report complains of the growing habit of Judges to display political bias on the Bench. If the Bench, is to be occupied by political partisans wKo have neither self-control nor common decency to act as Judges should, and if the responsible authorities decline to remove Judges abusing their position, the Law Courts will cease to enjoy deference and respect, and their judgment will fall to carry acquiescence. AUSTRALIAN LABOUR PARTY. SYDNEY, Jan. 26. Messrs Fisher and McGowen and Mr Verran (South Australia) were present at the opening of the Political Labour League Conference, and delivered congratulatory speeches on the progress of the Labour movemont.. Mr Verran' declared that he and other Labour Premiers did not allow themselves to suffer from big-head, but would' work together calmly for the benefit of the whole of the workers of Australia. After some opposition, the Conference decided to admit the Press. Received 12.15 a.mm., 27th. The Labour Congress negatived a resolution that for the present objective there should be substituted the development of higher individuality and closer approximation to economic justioe by the socialisation of industry and a wider diffusion of education; and also an amendment favouring securing to workers the full result of their skill and industry by collective ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange. A oommittee was appointed to oonfer with the Premier and Attorney-Gene-ral on the question of ensuring that nominees to the Legislative Coucil shall vote to give effect to the Labour platform.
A debate on tlie Federal referendum proposals is fixed for to-morrow.
