He was a member of the Lytteiton Borough Council for two or throe years/ aud eleven years ago was' appointed by tho Council to the position of Town Clerk and treasurer to the borough. He specialised in all branches of municipal work, and devoted much time to tlie study of municipal trading concerns. His is a registered accountant under the 'New Zealand Society of Accountants Act, and since tho acquiring of the Lytteiton Gas Works has acted as financial manager of the undertaking.
