PLEASANT POINT RACING CLUB. Presidents-Mr F. NelJigan ; judge— Mr John Murphy; handicapper—Mr A. C. Watson; starter—Mr C. A. Jefferson.; clerk of course—Mr A. MpKay ; clerks of scales, Messrs J. Maze and A. Stewart; timekeeper—Major Lindsay; secretary—Mr J. S. Chisliolm. In tho Pleasant Point domain yesterday, when tho Bacing Club held its sixth annual meeting, tho attendance was larger than has been tho caso in .previous years. The local residents Catrnnised tho races in generous numers, and with many visitors from other parts, tho grounds, well kept and pleasantly situated, had a brisk appearance all tho afternoon. In the majority of tho races somo very good sport was witnessed, and in their - oarn'est ondeavour to make tho gathering 3 successful one, the officials, though they could havo been more strict at times, were onergetic and courteous in the discliargo of their duties. The track was well laid out, and tho weather was favourable. Tho licensed booth was in the hands of Mr F. Nelligan, and Mr J. Murray had charge of the refreshment stand. Tho. amount taken at the gate was £2O, and the number of bookmakers doing business was large for so small a. meeting, 17 being licensed at £3 iis each. The. racing was" fairly interesting in each event. In tho Cup espe■pivly tho competition between the four starteis was very keen, and +''.» winner, Freak, owned by Mrs Tusker, was given an enthusiastic reception. After this race a handsome silver cup, presented.by Mr F. Nelligan, tho president, was handed to tho winner by Mr Jolm Sinclair, of Timaru. Mr Sinclair said that the meeting so far had gono splendidly, and ho complimented the officials on. thei complete nature of the arrangements they had maclo for a good day's sport. Tho cup had proved a fino race, and ho complimented Mrs Tasker on being the owner of tho winning horso, and said that he had great pleasure in presenting her with the president's cup. On his call three hearty cheers for Mrs Tasker were given, and then three moro for Mr NelWgan. Mr Tasker responded on behalf of his wife. From this point the meeting did not proceed so smoothly. In the Electric Handicap a good deal of delay at the starting post excited tho crowd, and a section of them became disorderly. Tho official starter left the course, apparently through a misunderstanding, and then an outsider sent the horses off. They finished all right, but of course the stewards decided that it was no race, and appointing one of their own number, Mr F. Medlieott, as starter, the race was re-run in a fashion after the next trot. Then in the Domain Handicap misfortune again hit the Club hard. There were threo very bad false starts, which practicallv gave one horse who had been left at the post first place. It was only in these two events, however, that the sportwas spoiled, and though the club officials must necessarily be liable to , certain amount of blame, a section of the crowd by its yelling and hooting and even interference gave a display of objectionable behaviour that was largely responsible for the mismanagement. In regard to the conduct of the mr-eting, Mr J. S. Cliisholm's name must be mentioned for the excellent services.lie rendered na secretary.
