The third wool sale of this season's series commenced to-day, when 19,778 bales were catalogued, about 3000 leas than at the corresponding sale last year. The broken weather during the past month, causing interruptions in shearing, prevented a good deal of wool from commg forward. A number of station clips wero submitted, but the selection as a whole was not satisfactory from the point of view of condition. The bulk of the-wool- was very dirty, and compared with the conditions of lost year's clips there was a difference of Id to ljd per lb in value. There was a large and representative attendance of buyera, though there was not so many present as on the two previous occasions. The competition was very slack as compared with the November and December sales. Most of the buyers appeared to be "sitting tight," especially the Bradford and Frenoh sections. The principal operators were the woollen mills, German representatives, and ihd local fellmongers. The sale did not improve as it progressed, and about one-third of the offerings wero passed in. Most of the best Corriedale wool failed ft reach owners' reserves, and a considerable proportion of the best wool in the largo halfbred anil crossbred clips was also passed in, only the inferior wool and pieces in these clips being sold. A few clips had a good run, but it was' rare that 12d was reached for either halfbred or Corriedale. The highest priced clips were: Waitohi Downs halfbred 12Jd, Rokahuri Corriedale 12Jd, P. Merino 12Jd, Mount Grey and AVhite Rock Corriedale 12d«.
