Two young men, named Mace and Denmead, under committal on a charge of stealing, were left in the exercise yard. After crossing several walls and fences, they scaled a 80ft wall, and with the assistance of.their braces tied together dropped into the street and got clear away. The escape was made in view of a number of people, and the first intimation the gaol authorities had that the .men were missing came from a tram guard who saw the escapees running away. One bystander watched the flight for liberty under the impression that enterprising moving picture people had arranged the affair for biograph purposes. Immediately the authorities discovered the escape all the available police started to hunt for the fugitives, and they are confident of recapturing them.
