CRICKET.
♦ . THE SECOND. TEST MATCH, Pno. Association—By TeL—Copyright { SYDNEY, Jan. 6. | The "Sydney Morning Herald" says ! that no extraneous reason is assign- j able for the inexplicable collapse of the African cricketers, as the wicket and light were still perfect. Possibly the batsmen were nervous and played too cautiously. Whitty bowled finely, but no better than in the first test, match. Cotter " rocked " them home, but has bowled faster. The exhibition was just one of those unaccountable "rots" which "set in for no obvious reason, when even the best batsmen are at the wickets. The "Daily Telegraph" sums up the position by stating that the visitors in an even go bad played over the Australians during the first three days. Probably if their task in the second innings had been a greater one they would have made a better showing. They seemed to be carried off their feet by success up to a certain point, ' and not realising the possibilities were knocked off their accustomed base. They did not show, tie stuff which certainly is in them. THE THIRD TEST MATCH. Received 10.40 0.m., Jan. sth*. SYDNEY, Jan. 5. For the third test match, whicli begins at Adelaide to-morrow, the Australian team is unchanged. The newspapers criticise the continued inclusion of Zilacartney, who failed consistently igainst- the Africans.
