WELLINGTONS FATAL EIRE.
♦ THE INQTJEST. Per Press Association. ■WELLINGTON, Jan. 4. At the inquest yesterday on the victims of,tiie fire, John Jackson, proprietor of tlie NVellesley Boardinghouse, deposed that the seat of the fire was near tli3 dining room, is a recess used as a linen closet. He ccuid' not warn ail the inmates, owing to the rapidity of the flames. The fir© escapes, of which there were four, met with the requirements of the City Council. Charles Kenny, grocer, who shared a room with Crombie, one of the deceased, said that the latter retired between 10.30 and 11 under ithe- influence of drink. On the alarm being given he woke Crombie, who did not seem to understand, and did not get up. Witness nulled Crombie out of bed, and put him on his feet, telling him to follow, "Witness got through a back window on to a lean-to, thinking Crombie was following. Superintendent O'Brien gave- evidence regarding the finding of Crombie's body. The police this morning found a packet book containing a letter and other residences, proving that the second man, otherwise unrecognised, who was burned to death in the boardinghouse fire, was Patrick Meban, a young man of 21, re;entlv arrived from _Canj;loiuTll, Ireland^
