* <t> THE A'.R.C. DERBY. Press Association-By Telegraph-Copyrigln. SYDNEY, Oct. -M. The " Sydney Morning Herald "' describes the A'ietoria Derby as a veritable boil-over. Right up to the rise of the barrier it was all Tanami. After that a lot of other horses were mentioned, but Tanami was never beard of. He started oil' as he finished, at the tail. The held was on the whole a well-conditioned lot. and the largest since Carnage won in IS9J. AYhen they lined up at the barrier. St. AYvne was on the rails. and the extended order was:—Beverage, Indiscreet, Tanami. and llartfell, with Desert Rose on the other wing. They were ouickly despatched on their important mission, in a lino which was soon broken bv LSevorage, Desert Hose and Styrhi. while St. AYyne and Tanami dropped to the rear. Setting a sound pac. Beverage carried the field along the riverside until nearing the bridge, where Resort Rose ran past him and fully maintaining the pace conducted the Cold along the back to the halfmile post. Here Beverage, who had been kept within easy striking distance of the leaders, again assumed command and successfully resisted a bold challenge from Sivria. who led him into the siiaighi. and won b\ three-quarters of a length. Bobadea was four lengths awav, and Hartfell next.
