COLLECTING INFORMATION. WANGANLTS EXAMPLE. The Borough Council having decided to collect information relating to the installation of tramway systems the Town Clerk (Mr Virtue) addressed a letter to tho Town Clerk at 'W'anganiu, asking for particulars concerning tho trams there. Mr Virtue submitted a list of questions, and these together with the answers received, are as follows : Population of Borough —• 15.000, of which. 10,000 are served by' the trains. Area—3ooo acres. Rateable value —£125.000. Miles of main track—oi. Miles of branch track —Nil. Steepest gradient—About 1 in 25. Number of cars—Six.

Cost of power-producing plant Jhigmes £3230, dynamos and 5.8., Nature of power-producing plant— Suction gas. Cost of fuel—£3oo. Cost of oils, etc.—£lo7. Horse-power—l3s h.p. Particulars, length, size,'and costs of cable wire—ls miles, .4, £IO4O, and U miles, .2, £520. Size and cost of poles—3s to 40ft., iroubark, £4 9s to £9 13s.
