BAPTIST UNION CONFERENCE.

Per Eress Association. DUNEDIN, Oct. 11. The Baptist Union elected as President for the ensuing year Mr Robert Milligan (Mayor of Oamaru). The Union resolved to commend to the C2mrch.es or New Zealand the memorial of the world's missionary conference to be held at Edinburgh, urging that all the churches of Greater Britain should cull public attention to the shame of the Indian Government's opium monopoly, and continued insistence on the rights of the scandalous treaty of- Tientsin. To-night the Union held a Homo Mission demonstration. The Rev. Alfred North (Potisonby) presided and gave an address in support of backblock _ missions. Rev. H. B. Hughes (Hastings) dealt with the meaning, motives, and methods of carrying on Home Mission wort. Pastor J. D. Mill (Hamilton) urged progress as a means of increased spiritual power, and pointed out several places in New Zealand where no religious service had been held for five years. Rev. W. Hay on behalf of the Union presented Rev. H. B. Hughes with a Hastings' Bible Dictionary for brilliant results in the recent examinations.
