A deputation of Canterbury members waited on Sir Joseph Ward 011 Kridav with a request that the Government should subsidise the collec-tons made on behalf of the St. John Ambulance Association 011 " ambulance days." Sir Joseph, in reply, said that before the request- could be acceded to the distribution of any subsidy would have to be put on a proper basis. When the Government last granted a subsidy, the demands had exceeded all expectations. He would go into the question of providing a strictly limited amount for distribution among the villous branches of the association, or a modified subsidy of say something like os in the ,C,
