Mollis, a member of the LaLour Party of the Xew South Wales Parliament, and lion, secretary to tie Locomotive Association of Australasia. is coming to New Zealand to assist the Locomotive _ Association in perfecting their organisation. A very ple:'»ant little function took place in the Priory last evening, when the committee and president of the Avoca Hockey Club made a presentation to their "coach" Mr A. Duff. The Rev. Father Smyth, in handing over t-i Mr Duff the present, remarked that the club was greatly indebted to Mr Duff for the progress it had made under his able tuition during the past two seasons, and particularly for the way he had looked after the interests of the club on all occasions. Mr Duff suitably responded, and said that h'S work had been a real plen.sure to him owing to the sportsmanlike way in which the members had at all times Itehaved. Private letters received in Dimedin, state that the health of Mr William Hall-Tones is :>nyrhing but satisfaetorv. Tt is said to he nn open secret that Sir William is only hiding office till after the next Premiers' Conference, and if his healib does not improve- he may be obiirod to lay down the carps of official life much sooner 7f that contingency should hnppen. he has no intention of re-entering public life in New Zealand, his desire being to lead a re* tired life in.
