YESTERDAY'S j Timaru people attended the I'ark in • fairly largo numbers yesterday after- j uuuu, when the Hockey Association's sis-a.sii.le tournament waa commenced in lino bright weather. As a. popular : j pastime hockey has now strung attractions for many in the district of South Canterbury, and with the two park grounds in perfect orck'r play was i'ast i and interesting, though sonic of the "anies seemed unduly protracted. Play stopped at 5.30 p.m.. and the semi-finals and finals will be played next Thursday. All the officials were energetic and skilful in their- management. Mr A. Robertson was an able secretary and the referees Messrs J. Feelev,'AV. AY. Smith, R. J. Lloyd, F. Saunders, H. G. Keith, F. Smith. Groves and A. Robertson succeeded in giving every satisfaction.
