He had known Mr Alexander since he entered the profession as a junior on the Christ-church "Press." and his progress since then had been the result of great industry allied tn high literarv gifts, a keen news sen*e and sound judgment. He hid won hw way on his merits, and his reronl should serve as an excellent examnle for anv young journalist to follow. On behalf of the staff he present-cd t<> ATr Alexander a pair of Oroos prism binoculars, in case with silver plate suitably inscribed. Appreciative speeches were made by other : members of the staff.
