At '2 o'clock the cortege moved lrom the church. the following of mourners belli2 one of the longest sr-en in Temuka for some years —a ■striking testimony to the esteem in which the deceased lady was held. The Dead March m Saul was played at the church a? the body was carried from the building. The Kc-v. Father Fay ]\l\. officiated at the graveside where fully C>!H) people had congregated and took war: in the responses. On "Saturday last the staff of the Wellington " Dominion "" had a social gath'-T'lnii to farewell Air Alexander wl:r> has been appointed editor of til© ' Timaru Herald."'' The editor of the Dominion." who occupied the chair, expressed warm admiration for Air Alexander's ability as a journalist, and tli? nersonal qualities which had won. for him the resoo-ct and friendship of all the members of the staff. He had known Mr Alexander since he entered the profession as a junior on the Christ-church "Press." and his progress since then had been the result of great industry allied tn high literarv gifts, a keen news sen*e and sound judgment. He hid won hw way on his merits, and his reronl should serve as an excellent examnle for anv young journalist to follow. On behalf of the staff he present-cd t<> ATr Alexander a pair of Oroos prism binoculars, in case with silver plate suitably inscribed. Appreciative speeches were made by other : members of the staff.
