HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
The bi-monthly meeting of the Wailiiate High School Board was held on Tuesday night. Present—Messrs Sinclair (chairman), Beckett, Sanders, lukster, Urbell, Hamilton and Key. A. S. Morrison.
Some discussion took place in connection with scholarship matters. It was considered desirable' that no pupil should hold more than one scholarship at the same time, and the following addition to the Board's regulations was adopted—''That no scholarship of this Board shall be allocated to the holder of another scholarship or the winner of another scholarship of this or any other authority, unless in the case of a _ winner of another scholarship, such winner shall decline such other scholarship."
The rector's report showed roll number 58, and average attendance 53. A list of subjects being taught was given all of which it was considered con id not 'be fitted into the statutorv -25 hours per week. The applications for scholarships close on 15th September, and it would lie necessary to advertise same almost at once. The. candidates for admission to the senior department of the school had all for the second lime in succession passed the necessary examination. This was claimed as a. record for a District High School. The industry and conduct of all scholarship holders was reported as bighlv satisfactory. The A. and P. Association, who are joint holders with the Board in renting an office, arc considering the question of removing to other premises, and the chairman and Air Beckett' were appointed to deal with the matter if any change occurred, and to decide as to remaining in present premises or getting others suitable.
Accounts for £1 Us 6d were passed for payment.
