STEAMERS IN COLLISION. FORTY-ONE PERSONS DROWNED. iTress Asfciooiatiou-Bv Telegraph-Copyright LONDON, August "IG. The German steamer Elsa, in a fog 32 miles west of Tarifa, collided with and sank the Spanish steamer Marios. Thirty-two passengers and several of the crew were drowned. The Elsa lias arrived at Gibraltar badly damaged. Received 12.20 a.m., August ISth. LONDON, August 17. The steamer Marios sank in two minutes, and 45 were drowned, including a mother and three children who were travelling in the saloon. The third-class passengers were principally fishermen with their wives and children. The captain, who was a septuagenarian, went down standing on the bridge. One survivor swam for an hour, and was twice sucked under by a whirlpool. The Elsa saved 65 persons.
LINER, WRECKED. The East African liner Khedive, was totally wrecked on the rocks at Capo Morgan, South Africa. One officer was drowned. The vessel was valued at £70,000, and cargo at £50,000. ON THE ROCKS. ADELAIDE. August 17. The Adelaide Company's steamer Investigator is aground.on the rocks at Port Elizabeth. She is badly damaged, and her engine-room is flooded. It is feared til at she will become a total wreck.
