Hockey Notes.

(By "Stick.") V. Anderson played a fine game as centre for Geraldine, and I think he is a certainty for the rep. team. Goraldine's goalkeeper played a sterling game. Te Rangi forwards found this out when.trying to find the net. The Te Rangi team would do better if they passed the ball more instead of playing to one man so much, as they arts in the habit of doing. J. Mason. Te Rangi's' captain, should use both hands when dribbling the ball. He lost some good chances of scoring by playing one-handed so much. What went wrong with one of St. Mary's forwards last Thursday. Thev were right off. Broad being' the only one who played up to form. The Timaru team want a, good goalshooter. Some of their attempts to find the net on Thursday were" very weak. I hear that the six-a-side tournev will probably l.i e played about the end of this month. Players will be glad to know this. What is the Association doing about touring teams? It is time something was done, as the outside Association will soon bo arranging the dates for their rep. matches.

Mr Hatch, the well known referee, was a spectator at last Thursday's match. He gives it as his opinion that hockey has improved in Timaru since last season.

A. Duff, Timnru's left winger, missed several easy chances of finding the net liy hitting wildly. He stands too straight up when attempting to shoot, with the result that he hits over the top of the hall.

Geraldine were very luekv in. not being penalised more often for off-side play. More than one of their goals was scored by a. player off-side. "This team should study the new off-side ride more for their future benefit.

A word of advice to the junior plavrrs. Don't talk so much on the field; not knowing the rules is prohablv to blame for this to a. certain extent. In the match last Thursday both teams were doing a lot of unnecessary talking.

The final round of the men's senior competition was played last Thursday afternoon, in ideal hockey weather. Although the grounds were slippery some good hockey was witnessed, especially in the Geraldine-Te Rangi match. The Geraldine forwards getting on some very pretty passing rushes, their stiek work being both clever and tricky. Taking the afternoon's sport all roundj the spectators must have been well satisfied. The results of the matches were as follows:—Seniors—St. Marv's 3 goals, Timaru nil; Geraldine 5, Te Rang! 1. Juniors—St. Mary's 1, Temuka nil.
