The American visible supply of wheat is . 20,987,000 bushels. A meeting of shareholders of the Melbourne Trust Company unanimously authorised a conditional agreement for the purchase of the Mercantile Bank. A meeting of the latter confirmed the sale. LONDON, August 12. ■The wheat markets have hardened, owing to information that the French harvest' is estimated to yield 25 per centum below last year. The advanced prices have checked business in the United Kingdom. Four cargoes of Australian have been sold at 38s 3.} d, 38s -6d, 38s 9cl, and 37s Od respectively. On passage parcels at 30s to 38s Od. August shipment is held for 375. Australian on snot, 39s to 40s. iSe\r Zealand, 35s to 30s 3d. Oats are in better demand.
