Asrociation-By Telegraph-Copyright BRANCH RAILWAY. SYDNEY, August 12. The Assembly assented to a proposal to construct a. branch railway- relieving the city lines at a cost of £BOO,OOO. WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY, Wireless telegraphy is to be installed on the steamers Rivenua and Ulimaroa. The Australasian Wireless Limited, which company has secured a contract for the installation of stations round the coast, will make a start by fitting the steamer Ulimaroa on her return from New Jealand. The steamer Riverina. will be fitted a few weeks later. The system employed will be of the singing spark type. POTATO "BLIGHT. Irish blight has been discovered in several parts of Victoria. THE NEW CABLE. Mr. Judd, manager for the Pacifio Cable, states that the direct line with New Zealand will be free from tbe occasional few minutes' interruption inseparable from the present service. In the event of such a cable New Zealand and Australia will be connected in four ways and have facilities second to none. NAVAL CODE FLAGS. To overcome the difficulty of flying the Australian flag over* the 1 naval unit, aa endeavour will be naval unit, an endeavour will be made to have the different Dominions' flags included in the international code. Received 9.20 p.m., August 12th PROPOSED REFERENDUM. " The Assembly carried a resolution in favour of a Bill providing for a referendum on the question of a reduction of members of the Assembly, fixing the number of members of the Council and preventing deadlocks. Received 12.45 a.m.. Augut 13th. SECOND BALLOT. In the Assembly, Mr Woods sought leave to introduce the Second Ballot -Bill. After a long debate the motion was adjourned.
